Termite Control

Termite damage to residential and commercial buildings in the U.S. costs more than $1 billion annually.  Subterranean termites, the most destructive of all termite species, account for 95% of the damage.  The subterranean termite species Reticulitermes flavipes(Kollar) is present throughout all of Missouri and Kansas.  These subterranean termites continuously forage for food and water.  If they encounter your home or building foundation while foraging , termites will follow any crack or crevice with an opening 1/32 of an inch wide into the interior areas of the structure.  Once inside, the termites will seek a source of food which may consist of the following: lumber, wood panels, flooring, sheetrock, wallpaper, plastics, paper products, and some fabrics.  The most serious and costly problem occurs when termites attack the structural wood inside the structure.  This activity may go unnoticed until structural failure results.
Ragan’s trained termite technicians provide complete inspections for residential and commercial properties for the detection of present or past termite activity, current conducive conditions within or outside the structure termites seek out, and potential entry areas.

Ragan offers structural treatments for existing termite activity and preventive termite treatments if no current activity exists.  There are two primary treatment options for subterranean termites provided by Ragan.

Premise Termite Control

Manufactured by Bayer

Premise is a non-repellant chemical treatment that is applied to soil to create a protective Treated Zone between termites and the wood in your home.  Its unique chemistry binds to the soil and won’t wash away.  Because Premise is non-repelling, termites cannot detect it in the soil and they unknowingly enter the Treated Zone.  While in the Treated Zone, termites ingest or come into contact with Premise, transfer it to other termites in the colony, and then die.
  • Premise controls and reduces termite populations in three important ways.
  • Foraging termites consume Premise in soil as they tunnel from their home to yours.
  • Termites contact Premise as they forage in treated soil.
  • Premise is carried back to the colony by termites that have entered the Treated Zone.
Because termites live in colonies and constantly interact with each other, a lethal dose can be transferred to other termites through social interaction.  The transfer from one termite to others-the Domino Effect- makes Premise highly effective at wiping out termite populations.

Advance Termite Bait System

Manufactured by Whitmire Micro-Gen

Termite Control StationOffers a major advance in termite baiting technology via a dual stage process that features an ultra low disturbance design to pattern termite’s natural feeding behavior, leading to enhanced colony reduction.
The largest containerized bait load allows for maximum bait to be fed to the colony in a shorter time to eliminate your termite colony faster, giving you peace of mind.

  • Stations are installed only on the outside of the home.
  • Bait station is placed below ground and is opened by a special tool – no odors.
  • Reduces the termite colony and continues to monitor for new invading colonies for long-term protection of your home.

This Termite bait technology was extensively researched by leading university researchers to demonstrate the ability of this process to effectively reduce and potentially eliminate single and multiple termite colonies.

Ragan utilizes a combination of a liquid spot treatment with Premise to stop current termite activity along with the installation of the Whitmire Advance Baiting System to monitor and control the remaining termite activity around your home or business.
